Germany’s government plans to overhaul the Working Hours Act by replacing daily limits with a 48-hour weekly cap, prompting sharp criticism from the Hugo Sinzheimer Institute.
Current rules cap work at eight hours a day, with up to ten in exceptions. Officials say a weekly cap would boost flexibility and ease labor shortages; business groups agree, but HSI warns longer shifts increase health risks and may not improve work-life balance.
The coalition is expected to present a draft bill for parliamentary debate; watch for limits on maximum daily hours, rest periods, and safeguards that address health, predictability, and compliance. (Frankfurter Rundschau, 3 minute read)
Germany’s Health Ministry said a first evaluation of the country’s partial cannabis legalization will be released this fall amid state-level complaints about unclear rules and difficult implementation.
The review will focus on youth protection and permitted possession and club distribution limits. More than 300 cannabis clubs have been approved nationwide, but several states describe unclear regulations, complex policing, and persistent black-market activity; others say most rules are manageable with adjustments.
The federal government will publish the report in the fall, after which states are expected to propose changes—particularly for cultivation clubs—potentially leading to legislative adjustments. (SWR, 2 minute read)
Harry Styles ran the Berlin Marathon in 2:59:13 on Sunday, finishing under three hours, organizers confirmed.
The 31-year-old joined about 55,000 runners on a course widely regarded as the world’s fastest and reportedly raced under the pseudonym “Sted Sarandos.” A sub-three-hour marathon is a sought-after benchmark for many amateur runners.
Watch for any public comment from Styles and for official result listings to reflect his time and registered name. (The Independent, 1 minute read)
